Are you seriously in this industry for the long haul??...

Experience is the best teacher.. grab opportunities where you can practice theories, experiment on ideas, connect with people... do not "want" a TF all the time, volunteer, offer your services for free and build relationships. The things that you may think is "beneath you" are the very same things that will make you a better technical person. Its not always about being the guy mixing at FOH, you have to know a lot of other things that happen behind the scenes... setting up, knowing how things work, making decisions, managing people & being managed by someone above you.. best of all, you will learn what it is to be at the bottom and moving all the way to the top.....that experience will make you the best all around sound guy.

Be one with the boys, take that Kanin + Taba + Zesto production meal...experience na matulog ka sa sahig or sa tour case, sa ilalim ng stage, sa truck.. or even no sleep at all. No ligo, wisik-wisik lang. Don't expect everything to be glitz & glamour, most of the time you have to get down and dirty... minsan masesrmonan ka ng cliente kahit di mo kasalanan, learn to take it and fix the problem, they hired you to do a job and you took it, just make things work, you're part of a TEAM.

Carry yourself professionally, people will treat you like dirt if you look like dirt. Learn to VALUE yourself correctly. Be courteous to clients, be supportive to your co-workers, and always keep in mind that you are investing your time and effort for your future ... oh, and be thankful that you're alive and working.

These are things that will make you stronger & better at this craft, your future will not be served on a silver plate, its what you make out of it. I started working during my teens in the mid-80s with our home-grown Mobile Disco, this is what I've seen. It will all work out at the end, take my word for it, It has for me. - MDASB
